To most, it is no debate that frozen foods prove more sustainable in the restaurant industry. However, cooking foods that have already been frozen can sometimes impact the overall taste of a meal. At Bentley’s Roast Beef and Seafood, our family is explaining why it is important to us that our food is always fresh.

Frozen Food: Disadvantages

While it can be convenient to prepare frozen food at home after a stressful day, it can affect the quality of your meal. One of the biggest and most known disadvantages of cooking frozen foods is that it has the potential to remove much of the flavor obtained when consuming the fresh version. In addition, many foods lose nutrients and vitamins once they have been frozen.

Seafood is one of the highest categories when it comes to the disadvantages of freezing food. If fish is not stored correctly in a freezer, the taste, texture, and color can all become compromised. Further, freezing seafood can be deadly if the freezing method was not done correctly.

Fresh Food: Disadvantages

While there aren’t many disadvantages to consuming any item of fresh food, there is one in the restaurant industry. The one disadvantage – a shorter shelf life. However, with knowledge, experience, and the proper planning, a good restaurant can prepare, order accordingly, and always present their customers with the freshest, finest ingredients available.

Frozen Food: Advantages

Many restaurants admit to keeping the food they serve frozen before cooking and serving it. One of the biggest reasons this practice is common is the longer shelf life. However, another reason is that it can be more convenient for the cooks during a busy meal rush.

While many people believe that freezing food items can kill off potential bacteria, this is not true. Freezing food items only slows down the spread of bacteria; it cannot fully kill it. And, again, how the freezing process is handled becomes of the highest importance.

Fresh Food: Advantages

As we’ve mentioned, fresh food is always the best choice for both taste and overall health benefits. One of the only downsides to cooking and serving fresh food is that it will spoil faster than if it were frozen. Further, fresh items present a lower chance of processing.
